We think like entrepreneurs.
While the rest of my childhood friends spent their summers picking berries for one of the big farms in town, I cut a deal with a smaller farm to buy their strawberries wholesale and sell them by the side of the road near the Canadian border. It was surprisingly lucrative and planted the entrepreneurial seed that grew over time.
My practical side prevailed in college, where I studied accounting, landed a job at a prestigious firm, and climbed the corporate ladder. While I enjoyed working with numbers, I was surprised to learn that I didn't want my boss's job - then or ever.
When I looked around, what I realized I wanted (and couldn't get working for someone else) was freedom. I craved freedom to work from where I wanted and to see more of my family. I wanted to be able to hire working parents looking for more flexibility. I wanted to expand my earning potential and I wanted to make a difference in other people's lives.
